Biodiversity
The loss of biodiversity means loss of different kinds of
plants and animals including micro-organisms in a particular region by leaving
the ecosystem in danger.
When ecosystems get affected due to the loss of
biodiversity, the end sufferer would be human because human depends on the
ecosystem for his basic needs like air, water, food, and shelter. When these
basic necessities are polluted, the automatic sufferer would be human.
Destruction of Biodiversity
When human indulges in indiscriminate quarrying of rocky
mountains, hillocks, grow invasive plants and destroys local species, cut
trees, encroach wildlife habitats, performs intensive agriculture using
chemical fertilizers etc., the biodiversity of the region gets destroyed since
the local plants and animal species will either declines or gets extinct
altogether as a result of above said activities. This weakens the whole
ecosystem of the region and directly disturbs the system which provides clean
air, water, and food to humans.
Man-Animal Conflict
Man-Animal Conflict is a man-made creation. It is due to
the ruthless destruction of homes of several plants and animal species, some
animals are seen as a menace to human existence. For example, when human
activity results in the destruction of Rocky Mountains, Deforestation, etc., it
results in the destruction of whole plant and animal species in the region and
the region surrounding it. As far as the plant species are concerned, it either
gets declined or gets extinct altogether according to human exploitation.
However, as far as the animal species are concerned, they shift to the
surrounding places like agricultural lands and even residential areas which
brings direct conflict with humans.
For example, insects like a snake, birds like peacock,
jungle pigs, fox enters into agricultural lands and tries to make it as their
new home and in the process create a nuisance to farmers in various ways.
Animals like Elephants, Jungle pigs, Fox enters into the crop field and
ends up damaging and eating the crops.
In some regions, even monkeys are seen as a menace to
society since many fruit-bearing trees situated at government lands, forests
are being cut down by humans without thinking over the fact that we are
destroying their sources of food. As a result, in search of food, they spurge
into agricultural fields and even into residential areas creating disturbance
to humans. Just like this, human has made the life of many animals difficult by
destroying their homes.
Link between Covid19 and the loss of biodiversity
The continuous destruction of plant and animal species
including birds and micro-organisms has made the life of human tough in recent
times. The whole race of humanity is in danger due to the surge of several new
diseases like Covid19, Mucormycosis, etc. The reason being due to the so-called
development at the cost of destroying the biodiversity, the man has no longer
access to clean air, clean water, and even no clean/healthy food. Everything
has become impure due to the destruction of plant species that used to act as
an air purifier.
The activities of quarrying and other polluting
industries have also polluted the underground water and various water bodies
paving the way to water pollution.
Similarly, intensive uses of chemical fertilizers in the
name of earning quick profits also have led to the production of
poison/chemical mixed food.
When a man breaths unclean air drinks unclean water and
eats chemical-laden food, how can one expect a normal immunity level enough to
fight various disease carrying viruses?
When human’s immunity system weakens due to the
above-said reasons, then the virus spreads like Covid19 will get
conducive atmosphere for their growth among human. Therefore, there is an
urgent need for us to realize the importance of biodiversity by
realizing the right to life of plant and animal species as well as if we want
to enjoy our life in a peaceful manner. After all, this world is for not only
human beings but also belongs to Plants and Animals species as well. Therefore,
we have to learn to co-exist and avoid doing things that endanger the very
existence of other living beings.
